Age 8 I joined the Blackfern Judo club reaching Greenbelt at the age of 13.

I entered some regional tournaments achieving bronze and silver medals in my weight category. 

Throughout this time as it was for many kids from the 70s and after the first family video machine I watched countless martial arts videos of Bruce Lee, Claude van Damme and near enough every martial arts film I could get my hands on that came out on video .

I still had a burning desire and interest in martial arts . 

I was 19 when I met Sam Holder through work and found out he was also interested in martial arts.

He started to tell me about his Sensei Chris Clifford and if I was interested he would ask permission to take me along to his dojo to meet him.

In 1990 at age 19 I started training under Sensei Chris Clifford at his Bromley dojo.  

In 1991 I met Kyoshi Yonemoto on one of his many visits to Sensei Chris Cliffords Bromley dojo.

I received 1st dan in September 1992.

In 1994 I was invited to Tokyo along with other students to Master Ichikawa Sosui’s dojo and become a member of the Sosuikan where I received my 2nd dan. 

I continued studying under the direction of Sensei Chris Clifford until 1997 receiving my 3rd dan. 

I moved to Ibiza but continued returning over a period of 12 years for special lessons during visits to England. 

I received 4th dan during this period.

I returned to England in 2009 where I continued my studies receiving 5th dan in 2016.

In 2022 I received 6th dan and the honour of my copy of the Bubishi.
